At staff orientation for Firelight Camps this past weekend, I led our new team in an icebreaker. Everyone picked a piece of paper out of a hat, with a number and a sentence starter on it. For example, “4. If I were Willy Wonka, I would…”
First, we had to scramble to recreate our circle in order of the numbers on our piece of paper, from 1 to 16 clockwise. Number one then gave their paper to number two, and so forth, giving each person thirty spontaneous seconds to complete their sentence.
When Ayla was born, I wrote her birth story. It’s long and unedited. My mamma suggested that maybe Ayla wouldn’t want me to make it public; my own perspective, however positive in my memory, may not resonate with the woman Ayla will become. This was wisdom I took to heart.
