Episode 2: Lemon Coconut Quinoa Breakfast Bowl

Make this recipe in a pinch and float through the rest of your day. First conceived on a dreamy summer day with two of my gal pals and inspired by Heidi Swanson’s “Super Natural Every Day,” this outrageously delicious and healthy recipe has become a mainstay at Frisch Kitchen. To me, this zesty bowl invites memories of my adventures with farmers in the heart of the Andes, where quinoa comes alive. Its adaptable and encourages you to eat like you feel! More salt or honey? More fruit, in season? Go for it! GET THE RECIPE.

Episode 5 (Part 2): How to shop for Olive Oil in the U.S., with Lorenzo Caponetti

Renowned Tuscan olive oil producer Lorenzo Caponetti (www.caponetti.com) calls buying olive oil in the U.S. a “blind date.” Olive oil is a product we know so little about in the U.S. Watch this Q&A to learn hard-to-come-by answers to the following questions:

  • How to buy good olive oil in the U.S.
  • Should I buy filtered vs. unfiltered olive oil?
  • Why is olive oil so good for us?
  • Does “bitter olive oil” mean the oil has gone bad?

Episode 5 (Part 1): Rosemary Olive Oil Cake with Lorenzo Caponetti

A sensational and simple treat that celebrates the centuries-old liquid gift that comes from olive trees. Olive oil is a good fat – it’s actually a fruit juice – and produces remarkable flavors when combined with other lovingly produced ingredients. I’ve been caught sipping the stuff straight from the bottle.

This is a perfect cake to serve for breakfast, tea or dessert – dusted with confectioner’s sugar and topped with a smattering of toasted nuts. I had the pleasure of devouring a slice with my dear friend (who shared this recipe with me), Elizabeth, and renowned Tuscan olive oil producer Lorenzo Caponetti during his visit to Ithaca (www.caponetti.com). Get the recipe and read about why olive oil is good for you and Lorenzo’s tips on how to buy, store and cook with it.

Episode 4: Twins in the Kitchen – Thai Red Curry with Farmers Market Veggies

Dimity and I are perfect travel companions, born with an incurable, kindred and identical passion for adventure. Sharing my mother’s womb made it easy to journey in synch; we devour new cultures at the same beat. One of the ways we treasure and honor our world travels is by immersing ourselves in the aromas of foreign kitchens and memorable meals.

In Episode 4, we transported ourselves back to Thailand, where the curry held us hostage! Though it sounds exotic, homemade curry paste is easy to make and wildly rewarding. This rich, authentic-tasting recipe has been adapted to ingredients you can find at your local supermarket, and is a perfect compliment to the abundance of fresh vegetables coloring the farmers markets this time of year. GET THE RECIPE.

Episode 3 (Part 2): Wild Ramp Pesto

In Episode 3 (Part1): Foraging for Wild Ramps, my friends and I went on a forest adventure to learn a thing or two about safe and sustainable foraging for wild edibles. In this Episode, we’ll learn how to make Wild Ramp Pesto and two easy, nutritious and phenomenal dishes using this perfect pesto base: Wild Ramp Pesto with Wild Alaskan Salmon, and Wild Ramp Hummus. GET THE RECIPE.

Episode 3 (Part 1): Foraging for Wild Ramps

Before delving into the culinary delights of wild ramps in Episode 3 (Part 2) – Two Dishes with Wild Ramp Pesto, join my friends and I on a forest adventure to learn a thing or two about safe and sustainable foraging. There is nothing like a Spring hike and chancing upon a patch of wild ramps; bright, wide, ribbed leaves bursting through muddy soil and decomposed foliage, announcing the forest’s reawakening. The site of spring green takes my breath away. Not to mention, noshing on a fresh blade will make your head spin with immune-boosting Vitamin C. GET THE RECIPE.

Episode 1: Ackee & Saltfish

A Caribbean masterpiece! It’s a perfect dish for breakfast or brunch; it’s nutritious, simple to prepare and instantly floods you with the bright, warm glow of tropical sunshine. When I was a wee child swaddled by snow banks in my Denver birth town, my Jamaican godmother brought this recipe into our home one Christmas morning. It’s continued to be a tradition around which my family gathers enthusiastically every year, becoming more sophisticated over time with my step father’s contribution of brandy cocktails! Pair this dish with Jamaican Coco Bread for a truly authentic meal. GET THE RECIPE.
