For the first time in my blogging life, I’ve lapsed in my posts. I assure you it’s hardly for lack of interest in being sparked and inspired by life’s most delicious moments! You see, I’m going to Jamaica today. That’s right. I’m taking myself on vacation with one of my best pals, to the irie, ital, reggae-thumpin’ Island where my uncle and cousins dwell. In preparation I’ve had very little time to cook (thank you Bobby for feeding me!), ample work with PEAKS, and the general frenzy that comes with unplugging for a week. Why is it so?

Well, normally I insist on toting my technology with me so I can continue to share the mouthwatering bites I devour. But this time my fellow eaters, I’m leaving it all behind! Casting the modern world to the wind as I head to Caribbean shores with my book, a few great articles, my pastels and charcoal pencils, and my yoga mat. Also tucked into my bag are some reading materials on food photography.

That’s right! This lil’ blogger is about to take a gigantic step UPWARD! After months of research and fantastic advice from my camera-savvy friends, I decided to invest in my future storytelling. Big time. (Thank you federal tax refund). Here’s what I got:

Cannon EOS 60D (Body Only)
Cannon EF 35mm f/2 Wide Angle Lens
Tiffen 52mm UV Protection Filter
ScanDisk Extreme 32 GB (45MB/s)

Whether I decide to bring my new Cannon to the beach is another story. I’ll be making a last minute decision, akin to the spontaneity of my recipes.

You don’t think I would leave you hanging without something to munch on while I’m gone, do you? I invite you to revisit two unbelievably easy and phenomenal Jamaican classics: Ackee & Saltfish and Jamaican Coco Bread. Cook up a storm, gobble up and report back with your food thoughts!

I will be returning in a week with a suitcase of recipes and pictures to share! Bon voyage, and happy eating!
